WEALTH CREATION AND PREPARATION FOR RETIREMENT

"The worst form of ignorance is when we judge or reject something we know little or nothing about."

The quote above is by Douglas R. Andrew, author of Missed Fortune 101, the most common-sensical treatment of being smart about investing that this mortgage broker has ever seen. What he's saying is, stay open-minded, because the way to slowly but surely amass wealth is to follow some counter-intuitive thinking.

John Kenneth Galbraith, the noted Harvard economist, coined the term, "conventional wisdom." This mortgage broker says to learn the popular wisdom, then do just the opposite and you'll be okay.

Buy Mr. Andrews book, read it, and you'll learn that the conventional wisdom about creating wealth and getting ready for a comfortable retirement is pretty much off course.

So, let's cut to the chase:

Which would you rather have (everything else being equal):

  • A home worth $350,000 that you own free and clear OR
  • A home worth $350,000 that you owe $350,000 on, with $350,000 in investments earning you more than the cost of your mortgage?

Think about this…How much return does your equity in your home earn for you. Does the equity in your home give you:

  1. Safety
  2. Liquidiy
  3. A rate of return
  4. Any income tax benefits?
